PUMPKINHEAD INTERVIEW 5/28/22
It's game day in Cleveland, as you arrive downtown you see nothing but orange and brown. The Muni Lot has the normal haze from the tailgate grills, or maybe you take a stroll down W.6th street and see a large block party happening. This isn't any ordinary party. As you grab yourself a nice cold beverage you take a look around. Depending on the day, you may see Cleveland Browns Legend Bernie Kosar, or even former UFC World Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic. Food trucks, people dancing, free tshirts flying, smiles on faces, and even a giant beach ball. At the head of the street you see a large RV trailer with a DJ booth on the outside. This party is hosted by Gus Angelone or as most of you know him Pumpkinhead. Each Pumpkin Patch Tailgate always seems to have its own surprises in store for the Cleveland faithful. One thing that always stays consistent, is that every home game sitting in Section 101 Pumpkinhead graces First Energy Stadium with his presence. Win, lose or tie Pumpkinhead never stops loving his hometown Cleveland Browns.
-You are well known around the area, but what is one misconception about you?
PUMPKINHEAD: "People think I work for the team when in actuality everything I do is done purely out of extreme fandom."
-What do you say to the people like Aaron Goldhammer who seem to always put you down whenever your name is mentioned?
PUMPKINHEAD: "Aaron Goldhammer tries to drum up controversies because he's jealous of the attention I get. I always put myself in the right places to succeed."
-I can say from experience your block party on W.6th prior to game days is a pretty cool experience and has evolved over the years. Started in the Barley House parking lot to now taking over the whole street. What can we expect this upcoming season? The Cleveland Browns host the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football on Halloween. Anything special planned?
PUMPKINHEAD: "Yes, the tailgates have come a long way! I plan on pulling out all the stops on Halloween this year! As always I will add to my show with some new equipment and surprises. Last season the giant beach ball was a huge success."
-Alright, let's talk about our beloved Cleveland Browns. What are your thoughts on the whole Baker Mayfield situation? Who's to blame? How did it get to this point?
PUMPKINHEAD: "As everyone knows I'm a huge Baker fan. I think we could've continued to win with him. His injury and the way the team handled him did him no favors. I think he also needs to put his head down and stop talking. I wish him all the best."
-Some NFL pundits like Mike Florio have stated they believe there's a chance Baker could still start for the Browns this year. You don't believe that do you?
PUMPKINHEAD: "Zero chance Baker ever plays for the Browns again. PERIOD!"
-I feel strongly that Jarvis Landry started the culture change within the organization. His hardwork and leadership was apparent. How much is he going to be missed?
PUMPKINHEAD: "Jarvis was a huge key to the culture change in Cleveland starting with his rant on Hard Knocks. His leadership and grit on the field will be greatly missed. I also wish him the best with the New Orleans Saints. That is unless he's playing us."
-What is the biggest weakness of the team as of right now?
PUMPKINHEAD: "I think the biggest weakness is the receiver room. Outside of Amari Cooper, I'm expecting big things this season from Donavon Peoples-Jones and David Njoku."
-What would the Browns have to finish or show you for it to be a successful year in your mind?
PUMPKINHEAD: "Living up to the expectations. The team needs to learn how to win and stay consistent."
-Prediction for the season?
PUMPKINHEAD: "13-4 AFC North Champs, lose in the AFC Championship game to the Buffalo Bills provided Watson's suspension is 4 or 5 games or less."
-As always we like to put our guests on the hot seat with our final question. Have you gotten a chance to meet Deshaun Watson? What's your opinion on the situation? Do you think he's guilty of what he's being accused of?
PUMPKINHEAD: "No, haven't met him yet. I'm sure I will at some point though. I'm not going to comment on the situation but I do like what he brings to the field."
-I really do appreciate you taking the time and letting me conduct this interview with you.
PUMPKINHEAD: "No problem"
